Moving from Substack

  1. In your Substack settings, create an export and download the zip. Unzip it.

  2. From the theme folder:

    pnpm import:substack ~/Downloads/my-substack-export

  3. Read what it prints. A line starting with ! names a file to check: a paid post with no paywall marker (the cut went after the first paragraph, which is the safe mistake) or a post with no subtitle.

  4. Set newsletter.firstIssue to the number your first post had, so the numbering carries on.

  5. pnpm build && pnpm check:cut.

Free posts are published in full; paid posts are cut where Substack’s paywall was. Existing files are never overwritten. Images keep pointing at Substack until you save them into the repository.
